BMDI Rotary House
Fight Cancer Foundation’s BMDI Rotary House opened in 2003 and features 13 fully self-contained one and two bedroom apartments for families living with cancer. Catering for families of all ages, the building’s amenities include a communal lounge, gym, library, children’s playroom and teen retreat.
Situated in North Melbourne, BMDI Rotary House is close to Melbourne’s major treating hospitals including The Royal Melbourne Hospital, The Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre and the Royal Children’s Hospital.
Families can stay in comfortable rooms specially equipped to cater to the isolation crucial for immune-suppressed patients who may require accommodation for multiple months during treatment and recovery.
The establishment of BMDI Rotary House was undertaken with the support of Rotary as a Multi-District project.
Australian Rotary Health
Australian Rotary Health is one of the largest independent funders of mental health research within Australia.
We also provide funding into a broad range of general health areas, provide scholarships for rural medical and nursing students, as well as Indigenous health students. Australian Rotary Health provides funding into areas of health that do not readily attract funding, and promotes findings to the community.
Australian Rotary Health is a project of the Rotary Districts of Australia and is supported by Rotary Clubs. We have a broad vision to improve the health and wellbeing of all Australians.
Every 3 minutes a child is born with clubfoot. That is 200,000 children each year. Hundreds of thousands of these children will live with a lifetime deformity that will limit their mobility, their ability to walk to school or to play with friends and eventually to work.
We have a simple mission: to support timely Ponseti Method treatment and appropriate care for all children born with clubfoot.Read more...

In a carnival atmosphere, 50 Rotarians and their family and friends gathered at Cilantro Restaurant to welcome our exchange student Jade Reis Costa.
The evening started with both national anthems of Brazil and Australia and a presentation of the Brazilian flag to Geoff by Jade and in return Geoff Presented Jade with an “Aussie Tee Shirt”
We learnt a lot about Brazil the country, the food, the people, the music, the customs. We welcomed and enjoyed the support of other Rotary clubs with members from Glen Eira, Caulfield, Cheltenham and Brighton clubs along with Barrie Vickers attending on the night.
Catering was brilliantly done by Carla and Roberto from Glen Eira Rotary and we all enjoyed tasting the delights of Brazilian foods. In the background Brazilian music and singing was enjoyed by all. See our Gallery for more photos.
Families should be safe, and we should all feel safe in ours and our neighbours' families, and in our local community.
By sharing ideas and experiences, Rotary Clubs worldwide can begin to change perceptions of what is safe - and what sorts of behaviour are normal and acceptable; and which are not.
Our Action Group provides pathways to resources and organisations: partners of Rotary Clubs who can assist families to break the cycle of family violence and invest in family safety.
