Wheelchairs in Vietnam - Speaker: Michael Redding
The Rotary Club of Glen Eira meets weekly with new and interesting guest speakers. We also discuss our current and upcoming service projects. Visitors are always welcome to attend.
Our guest speaker this week is Michael Redding.
In 2010, soon after he retired from secondary school teaching, Michael had his first visit to Vietnam. Along the way his life changed in ways which he could never have imagined.
By chance, when he got to Hue in central Vietnam, he met Dung Nguyen, a quite exceptional Vietnamese man, and they have become my very close friends. Each year since, Michael has returned to Vietnam. Dung has taken him to meet many other people and visit their homes in diverse places, from the big cities, to towns and to mountain villages where the minority tribal groups live. Michael has had many memorable and quite unique experiences in Vietnam.
He now hopes to give something back to Vietnam, as a small thank you for how this country has helped transform and enrich his life. This is the basis of his talk on ‘Wheelchairs For Vietnam’, focusing on the needs of disabled children and adults in Vietnam and what can be done to support them.
In January 2016 Michael became a member of the Rotary Club of Werribee.
