Martin Reports on OGAKI STUDENTS DELEGATION VISIT TO GLEN EIRA - 16TH TO 21ST AUGUST.

The Rotary Club of Glen Eira has recently coordinated a successful visit of a Student Delegation from the City of Ogaki in Japan. Ogaki and Glen Eira have a sister city relationship, as does Ogaki West Rotary with Glen Eira Rotary.

The Club’s involvement followed a request made by the Ogaki International Exchange Association, during a visit by 3 club members to Ogaki’s Anniversary celebrations and Festival in May this year.

The Association was keen to send 9 Ogaki Junior High School students for a 6-day visit to Glen Eira to share the school and home life of similar level Australian students.

We were able to interest and involve Glen Eira City Council and the Glen Eira Secondary College to host the students on school days and to select families prepared to accommodate the visitors during their stay.

Huge thanks to the Council, Glen Eira Secondary College and especially the host families for their wonderful efforts to ensure that our visitors all had memorable experiences.

The visit was so successful, the Delegation and the College Principal agreed to consider making bi annual exchange visits and thus cement the bonds between Ogaki and Glen Eira.

ROTARY AIDE FOR LOMBOK, INDONESIA.

The series of devastating earthquakes that struck the Indonesian islands of Lombok has affected nearly 400,000 people and damaged or destroyed more than 67,000 homes.

Aftershocks, some as strong as 6.9 magnitude, continue to rock the island and further traumatise the local community.

ShelterBox, working through our Rotary partners in Indonesia, has a Response Team on the ground, and the first of our pre-positioned stock from Jakarta  has arrived in Lombok .

Just $50 could buy a water filter to provide a family with safe drinking water.

$100 could pay for a ShelterKit to repair a damaged home or build an emergency shelter.

$1,000 could fund an entire ShelterBox

Will you help us provide shelter and essential items to families whose hopes and homes have been ripped apart?

Donate today and a generous donor will match your gift, dollar for dollar! (Up to a total of $50,000).

Research Assistance

A mature-age psychology honours student named Susan Nadolny who is researching how we view ethnic minorities within our multicultural society has contacted us. She would greatly appreciate the involvement of Rotary members. The study is open to any Australian 18 years and over. It involves the completion of an online survey that will take about 15 minutes that involves questions about how individuals feel about people from other backgrounds. The results of the findings will help to contribute to a better understanding regarding what factors influence cultural diversity in Australia. This research has been granted Research Ethics Approval through Charles Sturt University. It's open until 31 August. Susan can be emailed if you have any questions sp.nadolny@gmail.com.
