Last Week's Guests:      District Govenor Bronwyn Stephens & Mark Stephens

Visitors bearing gifts are always a hit and last week our DG Bronwyn Stephens was no exception. As part of an End Polio Now fundraiser Bronwyn gave each of  us a jar of smarties.  Our members were asked to enjoy the smarties and fill the jar with $2 coins.

Bronwyn and Mark put together an impressive slide show based on our club's activities. also chatted about many interesting subjects that are happening is our community including the understated Rotary House and world wide Rotary programs. Bronwyn answered many questions from our club members.

Mark Stephens explained how to log into the new District data base and ways to improve our media images.

Mark who is part of the organising committee of the Multi District Conference,  the Rotoract Youth Conference and the Peace Forum to be held Melbourne in February 2019, also informed us about the program and interesting speakers.  There will be something to interest everyone and a fantastic opportunity for Rotary to Showcase our Clubs and Project to the general public.   Early bird bookings are still open but not for long.

BMDI Rotary House

Fight Cancer Foundation’s BMDI Rotary House opened in 2003 and features 13 fully self-contained one and two bedroom apartments for families living with cancer. Catering for families of all ages, the building’s amenities include a communal lounge, gym, library, children’s playroom and teen retreat.

Situated in North Melbourne, BMDI Rotary House is close to Melbourne’s major treating hospitals including The Royal Melbourne Hospital, The Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre and the Royal Children’s Hospital.

Families can stay in comfortable rooms specially equipped to cater to the isolation crucial for immune-suppressed patients who may require accommodation for multiple months during treatment and recovery.

The establishment of BMDI Rotary House was undertaken with the support of Rotary as a Multi-District project.

Shine On Awards

Does you club know of somebody with a disability?
Do they provide outstanding support to others with disability?  Are they a community leader or involved in a community group?
Do you have a relationship with a local organisation that supports people with disability who may want to nominate somebody for Shine On?  Well it is time to get to it and reach out to your local community and identify people with a disability, who are worthy of Shine On recognition. Let’s make this year better than ever for the selection panel and give them many outstanding nominees to consider.

Don't forget to bring in the stamps received on your mail. This will be an ongoing project with proceeds going to Rotary Multi District Trachoma Project. We will have a collection box at the meetings.
